Opinion today: Ignoring global warming won't make it go away

Lester Billips Jr., of Syracuse, writes about how we should not ignore global warming in the Readers' Page of today's Post-Standard. Here is his letter:

The Occupy Wall Street protesters are protesting against the 1 percent of our population who own 20 percent of the wealth in this nation. How about protesting for the Third World as the United States, which has only 4.5 percent of the world’s population gobbles up 33 percent of the Earth’s materials? If that weren’t bad enough, the United States is one of the world’s major polluters; pollution, along with its ugly stepchild, global warming, is a big, worldwide headache. The effects of global warming are staring us right in the face (50 degrees in January?) and we’re ignoring them.
