WEST PALM BEACH — Palm Beach County commissioners on Tuesday will consider building a series of small, rock jetties off Singer Island to trap sand on the beach, reviving a 15-year effort to save the area's fast-eroding coastline.
The county has dumped sand along the mile-long stretch of beach eight times in 11 years. But that sand has repeatedly washed away, leaving condominiums unprotected from waves and threatening to wipe out one of the most important nesting spots for loggerhead turtles in the United States.
