Whether sunny or rainy out, things can be done to prepare for this year's vegetable harvest.
In dry spells, shallots, onion sets, and garlic can be planted outside. Inside, some seed can be started, such as cilantro, sweet onions, winter leeks, chard, and cold-tolerant lettuce, such as 'Winter Density' or 'Black Seeded Simpson.'
Gardeners with space and time to nurture tomato or pepper seedlings can start seed in February.
