This gardener is going to seed (in a good way)

Like many gardeners, I find the arrival of seed catalogs a welcome sight in what is normally a mailbox full of junk mail and bills.

This is the best time of year to be dreaming about the bounty of a vegetable garden. I suppose the seed companies must know this too. The tempting narratives they write describing mouthwatering delectables such as heirloom tomatoes ("Firm yet juicy flesh that slices well and can turn an ordinary sandwich into a gourmet delight") are enough to make anyone who has recently had to choke down a pale, mealy tomato order more packets of seed than a farmer would.
