After a heavy rainfall, many of Guam's rivers become cloudy with soil runoff. It is common to see plumes of brown murky water flooding the bays and reef. This process of soil erosion occurs naturally, but only to a certain extent.
Erosion can quickly become a serious source of water pollution when land is altered by human development, off roading and fires.
